Budget Friendly Steakhouse in Patong Beach, Phuket Thailand for Travel Foodies

Calling all budget friendly travel foodies! Around every corner is a delicious treat! Trying local foods abroad is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Not only do you get to support locals who really appreciate your business but you will also save money and experience the real culture within a city. 

Even with language gaps, food often connects us with one another. Food can connect you with the culture and history of the country of origin.

Patong beach in Phuket Thailand has so many options in different price brackets and you will find a lot of local treats tucked between or nearby the bigger/ more expensive restaurants. If you take your time when you look around you’ll find the best hidden gems!

When we found "สเต็กนายทอง88 steak naithong 88" we were on the hunt for a simple meal with a preference of a large portion of meat based protein. From the dishes I have had throughout Thailand there isn’t too much of an emphasis on meat eating so sometimes this can be hard to find. What a pleasant surprise from this restaurant. 

We hadn’t checked reviews before dining but if you look on google they are rated 4.6 out of 5 which is great for the area. Have you ever taken a chance on a restaurant and it exceeded your expectations? 

We stumbled upon this place on an evening walk. The large menu with the prices brought us in. The menu is extensive with hearty meat filled options. The menu also showcases some pictures of various dishes as well. We went with teriyaki chicken but other options include beef, pork, and chicken steaks along with seafood dishes and local dishes.

Prices: 105 baht per plate of food, 50 baht for fruit smoothie with one fruit and 60 baht for fruit smoothie with 2 fruits. 320 baht out the door which is currently less than 10 USD for a good quality meal.

Absolutely worth the price. The dining area is simple but welcoming and the staff was also very pleasant. I enjoyed watching the staff cook since the cooktop is at the street entrance of the restaurant. 

Food / Drink Flavors: We both ordered teriyaki grilled chicken with steamed rice which was accompanied by a mostly cabbage salad mixed with lettuce and topped with a sweet mayonnaise based dressing that went well with the cabbage and was a great side in addition to the steamed rice. 

We also ordered two smoothies. A watermelon smoothie and a coconut / mango smoothie. The smoothies either had no sugar added or very little which we prefer. The taste seemed as though they used fresh fruit for both smoothies which isn’t always the case in the area so we were very happy about it. 

The chicken was grilled and seasoned lightly. My personal opinion is that the chicken was grilled to perfection, juicy and tender. The teriyaki came on the side and was a great match for the local seasonings used on the grilled chicken. I love that they put the teriyaki on the side as well because then you can choose the quantity you have with every bite or even put some on your rice if you’d like!

I would like to put an emphasis on the portion vs pricing. The large portion of good quality meat really exceeded our expectations and compared to other local options the prices were really good. 

Atmosphere: 

This is a no frills restaurant without A/C. However, there are fans in the restaurant and I thought they provided enough of a relief from the heat. This is definitely a relaxed atmosphere, not too loud but not too quiet either. The grill is at the front entrance and there are people stopping by for take away options which adds to the atmosphere. There were 3 other tables full which was about halfway full for the restaurant.

As a traveler from the United States or Western Europe you may have some reservations about trying new food in different atmospheres / restaurant settings.
