I found Helen Georgia while flipping through a tourist magazine of Georgia and of course was drawn to it. What's not to love about a German town in the mountains where you can get authentic German food after a long day of tubing down the river. Here's what to expect! This is not a sponsored post, this is a recommendation from my personal experience.

Our Expectations For Camping in Helen Georgia: As a budget traveler I was upset when I started looking at local prices in Helen but I knew what was in store when I saw how popular it is for locals from the Atlanta area. Since we are in our truck camper traveling the United States this year we decided to find a campsite nearby. We did have a little extra room in our budget so we decided to stay for 4 nights and had tons of fun going to local shops, tubing down the river, and enjoying nature onsite at Hearthstone Cabins and Campgrounds.

You have your big name RV Resorts near by that are probably fully booked and twice your price range. Hearthstone ended up being exactly what we needed. A spot for our truck camper, close to the town center, in nature, in our price range, and owned by nice people!
What We Learned and What We Paid: For our Back-RV site with 30amp electric and water we paid $55 a night. This is more than we typically pay on average but again we knew that the area was very touristy so we thought it was a great deal.
The Hidden Gem Known as Hearthstone Cabins & Campground: The campground is actually within walking distance (if you're athletic enough to walk up and down hills). It someone still feels like you are out in nature camping. I found this to be my favorite part. Being able to walk/ drive a short distance into the hustle and bustle of Helen and being able to escape it is my kind of campground! The location is perfect in my opinion.

TIP: Read what the campground sends you so you know which direction to take. Helen is packed and the owners will guide you to stay out of traffic or take another route into the campground that is much easier for bigger RV's.
Upon arrival we were greeted and shown around the site and campground. We were in spot 1. On-site there is an outdoor art studio for you to add some beautiful art work to and is really just a great space for creativity in nature. Site 1 is the closest to the road and on the smaller side (what we expected) but there are 5 other sites with the same accommodations, tent-campsites, and full hook ups with 50 amp in a different area on site. Aside from camping you can even rent a cabin.

The property is on a hill so the campground does have a lot of slopes but it a great walk for the dog and beautiful to walk around. The tent sites looked amazing and there is even a community area down at the bottom of the hill with hammocks, a seating area, and a pond with a slide. This campground is what you would call "rustic" when we talk about bathrooms.
On-site there is a shower house that has two showers available that we clean but "rustic". For the toilets there is a regular porta-potty which was kept clean during our trip and a compost porta-potty. So no flushable toilets besides what you have in your RV. The toilets are the worst part about the stay (excluding the cabins) but not a deal breaker for us and it didn't change our opinion about the campground.
Would We Do it Again? Absolutely. Next time we return to the area we will stay here. A perfect trip would be during the weekdays for 3-4 days! I am still amazed at how the location felt remote but was so close to the town center at the same time. I would however want to stay on site 4,5, or 6 since they are closer to the bathroom. You can tell the owners care about the property as they work tirelessly to perfect it! Anyways, we loved it!
Don't Forget to Support Local! It feels good to support local! Local businesses appreciate every dollar and every person who supports them! It's also great to try new things, who knows, you might like them!
